Still doing that weekly #foodpaintchallenge on Instagram. It’s good painting practice and honestly I’m always better at doing assignments than having to both think of a thing to do and also do it. So this week was the above donuts, and I’m pretty happy with it overall. The pink frosting was much more intense in the photo reference, but I think it still works here. I will have to figure out how one mixes the colors to really sell that intensity in the future. Still, if you squint a bit, this definitely looks a bit like a couple of donuts.
I will say this isn’t entirely accurate to the piece. A new problem with oils I’ve discovered is they require somewhere from three days to ‘who knows’ to dry. So scanning a new piece is right out. And lighting a wet painting to photograph is a a real glare-fest no matter how you come at it.
